4 years ago, at a @NOAH_Action meeting, I asked @DaronHall7 if this was possible. He entertained my question in good faith and asked for time to explore it, which he and his staff did very responsibly.
Today is a huge moment: we have ended private prisons in Nashville.

Today, I expected there to be a stronger contract in place with a few more years to plan the transition. I might not have chosen this moment.
@DaronHall7 and @NashSheriff deserve tremendous credit for their professionalism and adapting to some surprises on this journey.

Very grateful to advocates and colleagues who understood the importance of this policy change.
We’ve had many in Nashville working on this long before I started. I had much great, important work to build on when I got elected.
