Its 21 October.

One of the darkest epochs in the history of Somali speaking people began on this day.

Lets take this opportunity to look back at the damage to the Somali way of life caused by faqash and their kacaan.

#KacaanMyth
#Somaliland #Somalia #Djibouti

#Economically:

The Kacaan's economic performance was abysmal, records show it lagged behind sub-saharan Africa for its entire reign.

In theory, the Somali Republic's economy should have performed A LOT better, after all, it was the largest aid recipient in Africa!

It didnt.

#Economically:

According to the World Bank, the Somali Republic under Afweyne's Kacaan was one of the least developed countries in the world.

Per Capita GDP = $170 (lowest in Africa)
Life expectancy = 46 years (!)
Infant mortality = 130/1000 (!)
Primary school enrolment = <10%

#Economically:

GDP of African nations for the period 1983-85:

Ethiopia: $8.9B
Gabon $3.7B
Kenya $8.5 Billion
Madagascar $3.5B
Malawi $2.1B
Papua New Guinea $3.9B
Senegal $2.8B

... #Somalia $1.3B <----- (!!!)

#Economically:

Banana production & export was one of the most important sources of hard currency for the country.

This sector fell of a cliff as soon as the Kacaan takeover began in 1969.

Afweyne decimated Banana operations, the numbers never recovered to pre-Kacaan levels!

#Economically:

The World Bank is explicit in stating that between 1970 and 1980 (the beginning of Afweyne's Kacaan), there was NO REAL GROWTH in per capita income.

(and yet faqash continue to try and claim the Somali Republic was BOOMING during Kacaan 😁).

#Economically:

What about all the projects you hear about that were completed during Kacaan?

The Kacaan's development expenditure was ENTIRELY financed by external assistance, i.e. AID.

#Economically:

This level of economic failure was unprecedented.

To make things worse, HUGE DEBTS were incurred in the process.

This list shows the Kacaan was indebted to every int. organisation in the world. Debt service payments alone were enough to cripple the economy!
