During the economic boom in 1960s many Truck drivers started painting their trucks to look unique and find transportation work, who used to travel all over the country. The art style, patterns and designs used are traditional ethnic designs which are centuries old
The drivers usually name their trucks e.g Rani ''Queen'', Anarkali ''Pomegranate blossom'' etc and decorate them like a bride and consider these trucks as a companion as it is inside the truck where they will spend most of their time
Poetry regarding heartbreak, wisdom, sufism and famous Pakistani cultural slangs, places and personalities are painted on the back and sides of the trucks.
This Art has now become the face of Pakistan. It represents Pakistani art and culture. It is now famous all over the world.
This Art though started with trucks but now has spread to other modes of transportation like buses, rickshaws, cards etc and culture, and is now found in every aspects of Pakistani society
Artists from Pakistan are specially called all over the world to decorate and paint for them in different events and for cultural exhibitions
