2) Many countries have serious numbers of excess deaths, not just major countries. Here they are ranked by excess deaths as % of annual deaths.
3) Some of the excess death rankings can differ if per 100k people or % of annual, or as undercount ratio of excess:official #COVID19 deaths.
Besides US with big population, Russia 🇷🇺 and Mexico 🇲🇽 and South Africa 🇿🇦 definitely have large excesses.
