I’ve been inundated with reports of school districts spending state and federal Covid relief money on substantial one-time bonuses to teachers and administrators instead of spending them on getting kids back in classrooms or to curb learning loss.
This thread will document them.
First, it’s fitting to start with what the @NEAToday pres. admitted Friday night.
In her words, the light at the end of the tunnel is... the 1.9T fed aid package giving 170B to schools.
You’d think this money would be spent on PPE, supplies, and programs for kids. Not quite...
This is the craziest one I’ve seen so far, $6K proposed bonus!
This one gives 1% of base pay, including to the superintendent. Teachers get an extra $500 stipend.
This district paying $2,500 in bonuses for future trips to Hawaii.
Here’s the one that kicked it off. $1k bonus and $250 stipend.
Poor Galt teachers only getting $750. 🙄
Keeps coming.
Adding Oakland, CA
Adding to the wall of shame.
Add a few more schools to the bonus thread. Teachers at Sweetwater get a 7% bonus. San Ysidro kids get one day a week in the classroom.

How about 0% and return full-time?
Still happening.
The board apparently will be voting on this at Tuesday’s meeting.
