🚨30 Days, 30 Prospects🚨

#14 - Javonte Williams, RB, UNC

Some people have him as the RB1 in this #NFLDraft while others have him just outside of the top tier, but nearly all agree that Williams is a great prospect and ready for the NFL. Check out why.⬇️

At 5' 9.5" and 212lbs, Williams looks like a bruiser out on the field, but don't mistake him for being only a power back. Williams has good burst and speed to reach the second level and create chunk plays, he can also split defenders and beat linebackers to the edge.

Yards After Contact. Williams eats these on top of his Cheerios in the morning. He hardly ever goes down at first contact and is always gaining the hard extra yards. He led the nation with 75 missed tacklers forced and averaged 4.59 yards after contact per run. That's special.

A beast near the goal line, Williams had 19 rushing touchdowns in 2020. I love his use of a low pad level and leg drive to push back against defenders and get into the end zone. No matter what happens at the next level he's going to be a weapon within 10 yards of the goal line.

I do think at times Williams struggles as a pure runner. He doesn't have elite vision or patience, in my opinion, and both him and Carter benefited from space opened up by the North Carolina passing game. It's a smaller knock, but it matters when we're splitting these top backs.

There can't be a Javonte Williams thread without THE highlight play of the season. This clip really shows what Williams is all about, his power, speed, contact balance, and hustle. Williams could be a very special back at the next level.

A Day 2 prospect in my eyes, Williams is pretty pro-ready but likely won't see passing downs right away. He's not bad through the air, but isn't an elite talent in that area. He can step in and immediately take over the majority of snaps for an RB-needy team though. My RB4.
