Very cool new PC game out today called Insurmountable, about mountain climbing.

You start out at the bottom of the mountain and, as you choose your (turn-based) path to the summit, explore various sites that can give you shelter, equipment, inspiration - or pose life-threatening dangers.

You traverse three different kinds of terrain - rock, snow, and ice - using equipment appropriate to each to minimize your expenditure of time and energy.

As you climb, you encounter day and night, as well as snowstorms, each with its own challenges. You have to choose very carefully when and how to rest.

As you near the top, you have to carefully balance and preserve five factors: sanity, energy, body temperature, oxygen, and health. Run low on the first four and you start taking hits to the last.

But reaching the top is only half the battle. You have to make it back down alive.

Here I just got down a treacherous ice cliff to below the death zone (6000m) where I could finally rest in a cave to restore my warmth and energy, without dying from lack of oxygen.

I like the fact that it's turn-based, not real-time, which means you can think through your options, and also not worry about being interrupted. There are three different mountains, but even climbing the same mountain is never the same challenge twice.
