WATCH: Rep. @jamestalarico grills Republican Steve Toth about his terrible civics bill.
Talarico: “Would you be open to an amendment requiring that we teach the history of white supremacy and teach students that it’s morally wrong?”
Toth: “No, I’m not.”

Talarico: “Your lengthy bill makes no effort to teach the history of white supremacy and its impact on the founding of our country—politically, socially, economically. The only thing you're doing is preventing us from talking about race in a way that makes you uncomfortable."
Talarico: "Your amendment is the same as the rest of your bill which is a whitewashing of history."
Talarico: "You're not an educator, are you, Mr. Toth?"
Talarico: "Are you aware most of the major education groups in this state oppose this bill?"
Talarico: "Should a teacher be compelled to teach the TEKS in Texas?"
Talarico: "Mr. Toth, have you read your own bill?"
Talarico: "That may be your desire, Mr. Toth, but that's not your bill."
Talarico: "What's the difference between 'activism' and participation? Is it only 'activism' when progressives do it?"
Talarico: "I want to use honest language"
