1/n The history of #Israel #Palestine Region is more than 8000 years old.

In this this thread I'll put across the brief details using my slides, along with sources embedded within them.

The thread will keep expanding with time.

2/n Around 6200 BC, Ghassulian Culture evolved in Levant region which by around 6500 years ago became Canaanite Culture.

Then the migration did happen from North to South Levant.

3/n 3800 BC, Canaanites were into being with splitting of Semitic Language from Afroasiatic Language.

Their Urban Centers are marked in the map.

4/n 2300 BC, Ebla, an important city of Canaans, had become part of Akkadian Empire of Sargon the Great & Naram-Sin of Akkad.

5/n The archives of Ebla tells us about the cities of Jerusalem and Hazor.

By 2154 BC, Akkadian EMpire had collapsed & people from Zagros Mountains had just made their way in.

Genetics too supports this migration (2500-1000 BC)/ Refer figure 2.

6/n The first cities of Canaans, En Esur & Meggido did rise in early Bronze Age & people were in contact with Egypt, North Asia Minor & Mesopotamia till iron age.

7/n By the mid of Bronze Age,with new urbanisation, region was divided into small states. Hazor was the important most.

Canaanites were highly influenced by Mesopotamian Culture & had developed into vast international trading network.

8/n By 1840 BC Amorite/Ammuru dynasties had become dominating force in Mesopotamia.

Ammuru had become the Assyrian term for Southern & Northern Canaan. It was divided in two confederacies:
1)Centered on Megiddo in Jezreel Valley

9/n 1650 BC, Canaanites invade eastern delta of Egypt.

10/n Further the Canaan confederacies were taken under Egyptian & Hittite Empire.

Biblical Sources do show Amorite as synonymous to Canaanites.
Between 1479-1400 BC, Egyptians kept Amorites & Canaans loyals.

Thutmose III reported a new turbulent element: Habiru

11/n In late 14th century BC, Hittites became threat to Egyptian power in Canaan.

The Habiru did had political ambitions too.

Abdi-Ashirta did join hands with Hittites to destroy Egyptian Power.

12/n The Amarna Letters disclose that Pharaoh was informed about the attack of Habiri but no help came.

The mayor of Kadesh does allege a Prince of disloyalty but the Prince gave different picture.

In fact each one only maligned each other.

13/n By the 13th century BC, Hittites had taken Levant completely.

Merneptah did attempt to revive, & in late 13th Cen BC, he did campaign for South Levant. & states of destroying "ISRAEL" (details in image)

But Ramses-III did lose South Levant to invading Philistines.

14/n "The battle of Canaan" had a deep impact on Egyptian Empire.

They had began to turn weak with economic turmoil.

Despite being victorious, Philistines could not be avoided from being settled in South Canaan.
