BEVs vs ICEVs - AN UPDATE 20210515
When we first found this report recently we wanted to know more detail
But we discovered that the data was now stale because the ICEV manufacturers had responded by issuing new updates to their vehicles
So we resolved to refresh the analysis
BMW now claims 210 kW for their 330d Diesel, up from 190 kW before, and a smaller increase for their 330i Petrol counterpart
And all of the ICEVs claim they have higher or equal Maximum Speeds to the Tesla Model SR+
But they have difficulty matching the Model 3 SR+ in 0-100 km per hour acceleration
And they all remain significantly more expensive to purchase
- with higher prices in all cases today than in February 2020
They are also more expensive overall to own and operate
- by a larger margin than before
ADAC also provides a breakdown of those Costs Of Ownership, which they calculate first on a monthly basis
OUR CONCLUSION ?
We have already passed the tipping point for BEVs to be both higher performance and lower cost than equivalent ICEVs
- the transition to BEVs now becomes a matter of supply and not economics
- a need for greater diversity in models, styles and functionality
