WHY DOES TESLA HAVE 25% MARKET SHARE IN BEVs ?
Clearly the answer is that they have the most popular vehicles with the widest global distribution of any BEV manufacturer
But there is more to it than that . . .
WHY ARE TESLA VEHICLES SO POPULAR ?
There are many answers to this
But one Big One dominates the rest, and you see it and hear about it all the time
- and several others provide strong support
Let's go to Europe where there is a greater of competitors relative to the USA
The Tesla Model 3 is very popular in Europe, and as we have shown, the entry level Model 3 SR+ has already beaten comparable ICEVs on Price, Performance, and overall Cost of Ownership
When we turn our attention to the BEV space, we hear a lot about the vehicles shown here :
The problem is that these vehicles only carry half of the Power of the 200 kW motor in the Tesla Model 3 SR +
- and the Tesla Model 3 SR+ outperforms them by a substantial margin for only a slightly higher price
This cohort of vehicles is also not designed for high-speed driving, with none of them being rated for higher than 165 km per hour
- the entry-level Tesla Model 3 SR+ is rated for 225 km per hour
Even though their motors are lower power, most of them cannot match the efficiency of the Tesla Model 3 SR+ at 14.0 KWh per 100 km
Their battery sizes are lower than the Tesla Model 3 SR+
And their WLTP Ranges are in all cases lower than the Tesla Model 3 SR+
With its combination of higher Power, greater Acceleration, higher Speed, lower Consumption and longer Range, we must conclude that these vehicles are not really direct competitors to the Tesla Model 3 SR+
And yet they are challenged by the closeness of its Price point
