WHY ARE TESLA VEHICLES SO POPULAR ?

YESTERDAY we looked at the entry-level Tesla Model 3 SR+ relative to its ICEV counterparts and a FIRST COHORT of BEVs :

- BEVs with 80 KW - 125 KW motors

TODAY we will do the same for the SECOND COHORT :

- BEVs with 125 KW - 200 KW motors

Once again, the Tesla Model 3 SR+ outperforms all of these counterparts in its Acceleration by a significant margin

And this is the most striking feature of all Tesla vehicles

- they are really quick and responsive

The Tesla Model 3 SR+ also has a much higher top Speed

So Tesla is selling PERFORMANCE even with this entry-level offering

- while others are just selling a vehicle

The efficiency of the Tesla Model 3 SR+ design and powertrain also gives it the lowest Power Consumption in this Class

Its Battery Size of 58 kWh is very similar to the others in this group except for the BMW i3 with its very modest 37.9 kWh battery

And the Tesla Model 3 SR+ has very good range

- while the Hyundai Kona leads the group in this dimension

Tesla has kept the Weight of the Model 3 SR+ very much in line with the rest of this Class

- with the BMW i3 holding the low end

- and the Ford Mustang Mach-E SR coming in much heavier

The Price of the Tesla Model 3 SR+ is right in line with these other less powerful vehicles

- and the new Ford Mustang Mach-E SR comes in much more expensive

ADAC also provides an estimate of the monthly Cost of Ownership broken down into four categories :

- Depreciation over 5 years at 15,000 km per year

- Fixed Costs including Insurance and Taxes

- Service and Tires

- Operating Cost for fuel

From this they also derive a Cost per kilometre

- which is very comparable for all of these vehicles

So in this second cohort of 125 KW - 200 KW we see very similar Entry Price, Cost of Ownership, and Cost per kilometre between all of the vehicles

But the Tesla Model 3 SR+ stands out for high Performance as shown in its greater Power, Acceleration, and Maximum Speed
