WHY ARE TESLA VEHICLES SO POPULAR ?
YESTERDAY we looked at the SECOND COHORT of BEVs with 125 KW - 200 KW motors
TOMORROW we shall look at the THIRD COHORT of BEVs with 200 KW - 300 KW motors
TODAY let's take a closer look at what they are competing with
- the TESLA MODEL 3
The Tesla Model 3 has the fastest Acceleration in its class, and in its Performance version it is beaten by very few other vehicles
The Model 3 Performance is rated for a top Speed of 261 km per hour
The largest Battery Size for the Model 3 is rated at 75 kWh
And Power Consumption remains very low even for the Model 3 Performance
The Range obviously depends very much on how you drive it
The quoted WLTP Range is a composite of City and Highway Driving
- with low speed driving naturally being most economical
The Calculated Range simply assumes constant driving at the stated Power Consumption level
The extra Batteries and Electric Motors for the Long Range and Performance versions only add 99 kg of Weight to the vehicle
And the extra Power of the Performance version allows extra payload for the vehicle
The Price levels simply add €10,000 Euros for the Long Range and an extra €5,000 for the Performance
The ADAC Delivered Price simply reflects the standard Delivery Charge
ADAC has estimated the 5-year Cost Of Ownership on an average monthly basis with 15,000 kms per year
- the Depreciation represents between 52.5% and 54.0% loss of value over that period, which may turn out to be pessimistic
- the Fixed Cost is Insurance and Taxes and is high
The Cost per kilometre for the Model 3 is simply the monthly Cost Of Ownership divided by the assumed average monthly travel of 1,250 kms
