WHY ARE TESLA VEHICLES SO POPULAR ?
YESTERDAY we looked at the TESLA MODEL 3 across its three different versions
TODAY let us look at the THIRD COHORT of BEVs with 200 KW - 300 KW motors
- and we shall overlay in Red what we have seen for the three versions of TESLA MODEL 3
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range and Performance will beat any of these vehicles in 0-100 km/hr Acceleration
The Audi e-Tron is a surprising laggard
With the Polestar 2 showing up as the best of the cohort outside of Tesla
The Tesla vehicles clearly dominate in Maximum Speed too
- with the Porsche Taycan being the only serious challenger
Tesla Model 3 offers two Battery Sizes of 58 kWh and 75 kWh
Mercedes EQC is carrying the biggest battery at 80 kWh
All of these illustrated vehicles are massively hungrier in their Power Consumption than any of the Tesla Model 3 versions
Which gives them all much lower Range for comparable battery capacities
Weight is obviously a factor with these vehicles being larger and heavier
- with the Audi e-Tron and Mercedes EQC being much the heaviest in Unladen Weight
The variation in Price is quite dramatic across this cohort
And credit goes to Polestar and Volvo for the most price-competitive offerings
This naturally translates into a big difference in monthly Cost Of Ownership
- with the expected cost of Depreciation causing the biggest variations between vehicles
And here is that same monthly cost translated into a Cost Per Kilometre for each vehicle
This suggests that the Polestar 2 is certainly a vehicle to watch
This evidence suggests that the larger Tesla Model Y should be VERY COMPETITIVE when it is launched into the European market
And tomorrow we will look at some summary analysis of these difference metrics across the set of vehicles that we have analyzed with the ADAC database
