“1 new community case, associated with the port of Melbourne. This is an individual who lives quite close to Stratton Finance in Port Melbourne, and who appears to have caught the virus through very peripheral, very tangential contact with 1 of the Stratton Finance employees”

“This is stranger to stranger transmission. The individuals concerned, it is not 1-2, we now have at least four instances in this cluster of 54, where people who are unknown to each other before, during and after, have clearly transmitted to each other.”

“What we're seeing now clearly is people who are brushing past each other in a small shop, they’re going round to a display home, they’re looking at phones in a Telstra shop. This is, relatively speaking, relatively fleeting. They don’t know each others names.”

“There are no mystery cases. Every case we have has been linked…My concern around one of the cases identified in the last 24 hours is they were not known to us beforehand”

“What we’re seeing here is another individual who has had relatively infrequent, fleeting contact with we think a couple of people over two days. That appears to be enough to get this infection across.”

“In total, how many cases in the clusters combined do we not know the source of?

In terms of the precise connection, there are two.”

“This is the biggest outbreak we’ve seen in Australia this year. It is one of the most, certainly the fastest moving outbreak we've seen anywhere in Australia for a long time”

“We had to do a lot of hard work to find the 40 odd people we did find in the restaurant. There may well have been a 41st person that we didn’t find, that didn't come forward at the time after all the work you guys did and we did to try and identify people”

“In reflection, that in many ways what the Victorian people are doing as a result of this case being seeded from South Australia hotel quarantine, is doing the hard lifting for all of Australia, and I am pretty sure that Victorians are still Australians”
