I usually avoid talking about any work that we do for fellow citizens. Firstly to avoid boastfulness & secondly we are not doing anything. Its only God (Iswara) who gives us opportunity to do something

But this time, I am writing & that's mainly to increase awareness. #sundarban

Sundarban area in Ganga delta consists of 100+ islands formed by innumerable creeks and tributaries of Ganga-Bidyadhari-Matla-Noni-Ichamoti-Raigmangal rivers.

Out of 54 inhabited islands, we could reach out to only 2-HerambaGopalpur & Moipit

Mathurapur-2 block, South 24 pargana

With our limited resources, we could provide to each of 300 families

-4 kg rice
-1 kg dal
-400 gm mustard oil
-2 kg potato
-Packet of Soybean
- 500 g chicken

Too little when the islands have population of 10,000+

Queue was always way much more than we could arrange

Every year high tide of 20-25 feet has left behind thick deposit of salt on paddy fields leaving them uncultivable.

Fully constructed brick walled houses are unlivable now. Its massive devastation, wherever you set your eyes on

20 feet high embankments just collapse when water gushes with such huge force

Here is one embankment breaking & water rushing in, inundating fields, that happened in front of our own eyes

Salt resistant paddy seeds were given by Govt last year but productivity of those are less.

People survived through wages received from MNREGA
and Rural road & bridge projects

Rice & dal given through PDS & miniscule flood relief done by voluntary groups just kept them alive

Demand has totally collapsed. Bazars are closed not because of lockdown but nobody has any money to buy.

Bharat Sebashram Sangha & Red Volunteers are running kitchens for few hundreds but thats nothing in comparison to 40 lakh people who need relief

Situation is tragic🙏
