In one of our final split session talks of #RCPsychIC 2021, we'll be hearing from @RachelUTG, @PsychMarwaha and @sameerjauhar, chaired by Professor Allan Young: Care of Adult Mental Ill-Health: Getting it right from the start.
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar The first talk comes from @RachelUTG. Interesting findings regarding clozapine in treating first episode psychosis. #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar "Can we use anti-depression medication in a more thoughtful way?" asks @RachelUTG at #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar Now we're looking at rTMS in young people with depression with @PsychMarwaha. There's a need for treatments in this area, for various reasons - including that it predicts physical health problems, as well as anxiety and bipolar disorder #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar Here are the current pharmacological options. But what happens when you run out of these options? rTMS is an option Dr Marwaha looked into at this point. #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar rTMS appears to be effective in adults, but what about adolescents? @PsychMarwaha discusses a recent study looking into this. Is it effective? What are the side effects? #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar The results of this meta-analysis are interesting - all studies analysed showed some effect. The impact on younger people actually appeared to be greater than you might find on older people. Side affects appeared by be relatively mild, says #psychmarwaha at #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar In summary, results are promising but both the quantity and quality of evidence is lacking. Larger, better trials are needed, preferably within the NHS and the sham effect needs to be accounted for, says @PsychMarwaha at #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar Now we have @sameerjauhar talking about first episode mania and psychosis. ? He explains what he means when he talks about early intervention, at #RCPsychIC
@RachelUTG @PsychMarwaha @sameerjauhar What questions remain? @sameerjauhar discusses what we know we don't know. #RCPsychIC
