to the extent that ads work by appealing to a person's or large group of people's profound longings advertisements are in no way trivial or empty
the product probably doesn't deliver on the promise sure. but the desire's real
this is the original and the critic at the end is completely wrong
do you think dreaming of a family is devalued because its portrayed in an ad? "this is kitsch!" yes it is but only the ad is kitsch. the dream is real
ha ha ha what if multiple generations of consumers realized that ads dont deliver on their promises and decided that this meant that the Yearnings exploited by the ads were actually bad ha ha ha wouldnt that be an incredible self-own ha ha
