.@Twitter gave far-right extremists the platform they needed to plan an attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, and the website will enable politically motivated violence again in the future if it isn't reformed.
My analysis here: splcenter.org/hatewatch/2021…
Grateful for guest appearances by @beccalew @MeganSquire0 @BostonJoan @jaredlholt Brian Friedberg @3r1nG and others here.
This was a hard one to put together because of the size. There is more to report from here.
Among other things, @Twitter verified and promoted the extremists who abused their platform to hype Pizzagate.
The fifth anniversary is looming and so I also spoke to James Alefantis of Comet Ping Pong about how they marketed them at his expense:

Jack Dorsey and @Twitter employ progressive branding for this company and try to present as being non-ideological.
Inside, they allegedly push an "activist, libertarian" worldview.
Who else would promote extremists like Nick Fuentes, Jack Posobiec and others after 1/6?
On January 5, @hannahgais flagged to Twitter Nick Fuentes' remarks raising the specter of killing GOP lawmakers -- one day before the attack.
Twitter cast aside concerns about Fuentes and offered to register us in a "Partner Support Portal."
One of a few emails published here.
“We retained 80% of the viewership. I mean that’s a pretty big deal. It’s hard to overstate what a big deal that is … just by saying, ‘Hey check me out on Twitter.’”
-Nick Fuentes on surviving YouTube and DLive bans: splcenter.org/hatewatch/2021…
Reminder that Jack Dorsey and Vijaya Gadde went on Rogan in 2019 and quasi-apologized to Tim Pool about banning Proud Boys founder Gavin McInnes.
Gadde described McInnes then as a “test case for how we think about getting people back on the platform."
Jack Dorsey has never denied being friends with the leader of Stop the Steal.
Pretty staggering detail people seem to ignore on here:
A lot of serious people flagging that Twitter denied their verification requests.
Twitter verified Nick Fuentes AFTER he went to Unite the Right. Posobiec AFTER Pizzagate.
These ppl were known only for *being extremists* online:
Remember how after Jan 6 @Twitter got reporters to scribble up PR about Birdwatch? It's a total failure because it was arguably never meant to succeed.
Be wary of "scoops" that come directly from the corporation that gave us Jack Posobiec:
