On June 23rd, 2021, Britney Spears dialed in to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse and told the judge that the court-ordered conservatorship in control her life was abusive, that she was being drugged and forced to work against her will. #FreeBritney

So what exactly does this have to do with Michael Jackson? It turns out a lot more than you would think. #FreeBritney

The first thing you need to know is that Britney’s conservatorship and Michael Jackson’s trust estate are both being heard in the same courthouse: the Los Angeles Superior probate Court. #FreeBritney

It was in this courthouse that Britney was placed under a corrupt conservatorship 13 years ago giving her father complete control over her finances and daily life. #FreeBritney

Britney Spears and Michael Jackson also have the same attorneys on their case. For example, Jeryl Cohen, who helped Britney’s dad establish the conservatorship, and then involved herself in Michael’s estate after he passed away. #FreeBritney

Prior to his death, Michael Jackson was preparing for a concert residency called “This Is It,” but he originally only agreed to do 10 shows. #FreeBritney

The public didn’t know it at the time, but MJ was having significant financial problems so they hired a new business manager Michael Kane, who later testified about this to the IRS. (There are literally no photos of this guy on the internet btw) #FreeBritney

Last year, Britney’s dad hired this same Michael Kane guy to be her new business manager without given Britney any notice! #FreeBritney

Michael Kane was part of the team that was overworking MJ to the point that he wasn’t sleeping. AEG promoter Randy Phillips was even complaining that MJ “didn’t like to work as hard” as he wanted. #FreeBritney

Here is an email from Michael Kane, Britney’s current business manager, asking if “a financial coming to Jesus speech” would help or add to Michael Jackson’s pressure. This was just 5 days before he died. #FreeBritney

Around this time, Michael Jackson sent Britney an eerie warning to retire early: “Don’t end up like me,” he said. #FreeBritney

On June 25, 2009, Michael Jackson died from propofol, a powerful drug normally used for surgery that should only be given in a hospital setting. His doctor Conrad Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. #FreeBritney

Michael’s family would go on to sue concert promoter AEG Live for wrongful death. The jury found AEG was responsible for hiring the doctor, but ultimately did not give a verdict in the family’s favor. #FreeBritney

Michael Jackson’s parents quickly filed to become the administrators of his estate, but Jeryl Cohen, who had just put Britney under a conservatorship a year before, filed documents claiming Michael had a willed the power to her clients John Branca and John McClain. #FreeBritney

Michael’s family found a discrepancy with this will because it was dated July 2, 2002 in Los Angeles, but Michael was in New York that day. So they hired an attorney who #FreeBritney supporters will recognize as the attorney Britney tried to hire back in 2008: Adam Streisand.

But instead of fighting the will, Adam’s first move in the case was to withdraw the objections altogether and cede the power to Jeryll Cohen and her clients. #FreeBritney

With the new administrators in place, Michael Jackson’s estate began to make huge merchandising deals that would stand to generate huge sums of profit. Here is attorney Howard Weitzman admitting these deals were against the family’s wishes. #FreeBritney

Howard Weitzman himself has a long history with Britney’s conservatorship. In fact, he was around the same month it was established, representing Britney in a dispute over pictures with her kids that were sold to OK! magazine without her consent. #FreeBritney

Howard would later turn against Britney and defend the alleged mastermind of her conservatorship, Lou Taylor, in a lawsuit being brought against Britney’s estate by Brand Sense. Howard recently passed away and Lou said he was always “very kind” to her. #FreeBritney

Together, Jeryll Cohen and Howard Weitzman worked to release the concert film “This It It” that included never-seen rehearsal footage before Michael died. #FreeBritney

In fact, Michael Jackson’s finances have only skyrocketed since he passed. #FreeBritney

And of course, Jeryl Cohen and Howard Weitzman came knocking for their cut of the check. Apparently Britney’s money wasn’t enough for them? #FreeBritney

The Jackson family sent a letter calling on the administrators of Michael’s estate to resign, accusing them of exploiting their brother for financial gain. #FreeBritney

It’s worth noting that after the #FreeBritney movement started, Jeryll Cohen and Howard Weitzman helped sell the rights to the Beatles catalogue, which Michael owned, worth nearly a billion dollars. Attorneys working on this case have already earned at least $6 million.
