I always feel weird tweeting the prep hacks but every time I’m blessed to speak w/someone met here they tell me those are their favorite thing 🤷🏼‍♂️

The idea isn’t that you guys can’t figure them out on your own;rather discouraging the ‘disposable herd’ habits we were born into

You know how in old movies we often see the main actor or actress move to a new town and all they have are a couple cardboard suitcases? That’s because as recently as the 1950’s Americans didn’t own tons of stuff. My dad was born in 1952 & for Christmas he usually received 1 gift

His parents weren’t poor. They owned their home and often a rental or two. He might’ve received some new clothes and maybe a book or a game but kids in the 50’s didn’t get showered w/ gifts like we did growing up.

My dad’s Christmas might’ve looked like 1 or 2 of these

Nonetheless today 2 of the fastest growing industries are storage units and healthcare services

Americans today own so much stuff that we can’t fit it all in our homes; we rent additional space to stuff it all into

During WW2 the British had this little guy. The Squander Bug

In fact whereas the primary reason for rationing in England was actual massive shortages of almost everything, the implementation of rationing in America was mostly to keep the home front in the war effort

The government knew that civilians had to suffer to stay supportive

So when I share these quirky little hacks please keep in mind there is a method to the madness

I know history and especially the history of warfare in the 19th & 20th Centuries

Remember Renee Zellweger’s character in Cold Mountain? Or Scarlet in Gone w/ the Wind?

There have been more times of danger level, starvation levels of want in the past 150 years in America than most people realize

And IMO those type of scant, scarce times could be coming again

and soon

When I bought a 10 pound bag of flour at Walmart there was enough flour on the shelves that had escaped the paper bags; anyone during the Great Depression would’ve scraped it up to make an extra biscuit

A common lunch for a working man, pre-WW2 was last nights lard on a biscuit

My word of encouragement is look back through time
•Joseph in Egypt
•Jamestown Colony at Roanoke
•Washington at Valley Forge
•The Joad Family trying to get to California

Starvation is real. It’s been more the rule than the exception

So from here on out ,

EVERY time that you can, pick up that extra something:

•only have $.60 cents? Buy another paper canister of salt

•only have $2? Buy another case of Ramen on sale

•Got $5? Buy another bag of flour or beans

•Got $10? Buy 4 more pounds of lard and 4 more of sugar
