Sadly I hadn’t seen “Vertigo” before my Twin Peaks analysis below. It clearly has a major impact on twin peaks with the concept of doubling and twins.
@HordeOrc even pointed out to me that S3 and vertigo have many similar shots.

A rarely analyzed aspect of twin peaks is how Donna doubles. James is very freaked out by it & during the original series there’s no clear answer 4it. Until the film when it’s revealed Donna went with Laura for one night to the roadhouse and had a psych break in prequel to series

In a way Donna is trying to become Laura in the same way Judy tries to become Madeline to please Scottie at the end of “Vertigo” and perhaps slips into becoming the cursed Carlotta Valdez. All thanks to MK trauma.

Donna is the nerdgrrl of the original series, only one of the original tp gals with a good home life. So her falling into MK was about wanting to play w fire by going along with Laura. Taking Laura’s boyfriend. Then following her foot steps on both the gud grl & bad grl stuff

This reflects sheltered 90s era suburban girls trying to reflect the behavior of teen idols. Donna & James both do this & is why their shared plots mirror films & other tv almost 1 for 1. James gets trapped in “double indemnity”, “rebel wo a cause” and various mystery whodunnits.

This scene is something straight out of an Elvis film, including instruments other than the guitar playing on the soundtrack inexplicably. Good 90s suburb kids reflecting tv/film versions of good girl/boy bad girl/boy.
Song style also predates and influences Seattle grunge.

A major theme of twin peaks season 3 is how the original series influenced our world and cross pollinated with the fantasy world of the original twin peaks run. TP helped Seattle rock & fashion take off in the 90s.
