There’s no mention of the massive flooding and death toll in Zhengzhou on the front page of People’s Daily.

There’s no direct mention of the Zhengzhou flooding in the headlines on the front page of the web version of People’s Daily either. See the red line I added in? The “fine print” there is where you click for the Zhengzhou flooding story.

State media claimed last night (July 20) that passengers trapped in Zhengzhou subway were being saved and no one was in danger but they’re actually still trapped inside and many died in the end.

Think what state media did when the coronavirus first appeared in Wuhan in 2019.

There were posts from Zhengzhou residents talking about flood discharge at Changzhuang Reservoir (常庄水庫) since July 20 morning going into late evening. This could be the real cause of the extreme flooding but we all know this would be denied.

Coverage of the Changzhuang flood discharge by RFA.

Just like the origin of the coronavirus outbreak and many other things, we will most likely never know the truth.

Inside Zhengzhou’s Jingguang Road Tunnel (京廣路隧道) before it was completely submerged by the massive flood. The combined length of the north and south sections of the tunnel is ~4km (some say 5km). Imagine the number of cars trapped inside. How many people got out alive?

Water flooding into the tunnel. Note that while it’s raining, it wasn’t really that heavy...

More and more water flooded into the tunnel...

About 10 minutes after the previous clip...

Drone footage of Jingguang Road (京廣路) after the rain stopped: both the north and south tunnels were completely submerged. It’s impossible for people trapped inside, if any, to stay alive.

Presumably bodies are being moved out of the tunnel after the water has been evacuated.

Apparently someone died trying to get out from his or her car when it was still submerged; the car door was unfortunately obstructed by another car... I believe there were many cases like this.

See how the Jingguang Tunnel was completely submerged...

Death toll is Zhengzhou flooding is now 51.

隴海路 (Longhai Road) in Zhengzhou, apparently another 豆腐渣工程 (tofu dreg project) in China. Note the thin layer of materials for the flimsy road surface with nothing much to support it underneath.
