This is a tweet from Veteran tory MP @johnredwood who it seems isn't happy with the lack of information being offered by Electric Car Manufacturers. We couldn't help but see the parallels between his confusion and his support for Vote Leave and Brexit...

Maybe the sneaky gits who make the ads know the journey of the average buyer. We suspect it kinda goes like this….

The Buyer likes the idea of an Electric Car, and wants one, though they don’t really know why....

They do some maths and realise that they are handing Oil Companies £113 a week conveniently forgetting that some of that is refunded.

They really like that idea of that Electric Car, despite never having seen one, as it offers “freedom from the oppression of Oil Companies”

So they talk to their spouse and children who all have a say and are unsure…. So they double down and lie to them saying that the Electric Car will save them £350 a week that they can spend on their “health”....

as well as giving them the Freedom to dictate the electricity prices THEY will be willing to pay to all the companies who will be queuing up around the block for the exclusive rights to charge their car up.

The buyers rebellious child, who also has to chip in for this car is 62% not convinced and votes against the idea, preferring to stick to the Fossil Fuelled car and the Stability of the Oil Companies.

The other child, not quite so rebellious does what the Buyer says.

The spouse is “not convinced’, despite living across the water from them and being physically attached to the Oil Companies the spouse generally does want to stay with the buyer, perhaps not entirely sold on the Electric Car idea though…

Overall, the family is 52% pro Electric Car and the Buyer makes the purchase. The buyer is delighted, the others aren’t so sure. At this stage no-one even knows what the electric car will look like, what colour it will be or how much it will cost.

The buyer then begins discussions about Styling, Colours and Options for the Electric Car, the buyer negotiates and eventually presents receipt for the fully optioned car to the family. It’s a crap colour with crap options, it looks hideous and is going to be very expensive.

The rebellious child suggests perhaps accepting that the family need a new car but helpfully suggests cancelling this order and getting a Hybrid instead? The rebellious child is ignored, takes the huff and talks about moving out again so he can buy his own car.

The other child begins to regret their choices.

The Spouse realises that they can’t drive the car as the charging cable they have isn’t compatible with the electricity connection needed to charge the electric car....

The spouse also realises that the family are only saving £113 a week, so the £237 difference means the family can’t afford to invest in their “health”.

The buyers spouse also realises that the great majority of electricity is still produced using Fossil Fuels, so the price of oil still affects the price of electricity....

This of course means that the family is still connected to the Oil Companies despite the Buyers best efforts to become independent of them.

This also leaves the Buyer unable to negotiate a better price for the Electricity as the Oil Companies have sewn up all the best electricity supply deals out there.

A deal is made to import Australian Electricity, but Australian Electricity isn’t produced to such a high standard and importing it 9000 miles negates the environmental benefits of the Electric Car.

The Buyer takes delivery of the Electric Car, it’s a crap colour, poorly equipped and expensive. On the first day of owning the Electric Car the Buyer tries to convince the Spouse it's a great car by picking up some shopping in it and taking it to them.

But there isn’t a compatible charging point between the Supermarket and the Spouse’s place over the water. The Electric Car grinds to a halt, the shopping goes off in the boot of the electric car and is useless.

The Spouse has no food in their cupboards so they get some delivered by the Oil Companies who drop easily it off from their Hybrid Car as they are still physically attached.

The rebellious child sees this and tells the Buyer, “told you we should have got a Hybrid”.

The Buyer is suddenly unhappy with his Electric Car, they can’t even drop the shopping off to their spouse in it due to the lack of compatible charging points. They contact the car manufacturer to see if they can have the capability to drive to their spouses’ home retro-fitted.

The Car Manufacturer politely tells the Buyer that the capabilities, range and price of the car were all agreed before the purchase was agreed.

The Car Manufacturer also reminds the buyer that the Receipt, finance agreement and operation manual were all written in the Buyers language so that they could understand it.

The Buyer tells his family that the Car Manufacturer are being unreasonable.
