Here lies a distinguishing feature between a bold and visionary leader and a seriously tentative one. In the aftermath of the insurrection, the sacking of Dlodlo, Mahlobo and others would have attracted massive popular support and lifted his image.
He is now comforted by the logical incrementalism advocated by J P Landman. A treasonous act was committed. Credible evidence pointed to lapses or connivance of leadership of SSA and others. Anywhere else they would have been sacked or worse.🙆♂️🙆♂️
Logical incrementalism applies where clarity of dev pathway is evident and constraints are articulated including mitigating strategies. It's misplaced in this case. It's a very comfortable option for a tentative leader in trying circumstances. An excuse.
It is important not to overrate the importance of balance of forces in the ANC now. The Zuma supporters are a fact. But Ramaphosa is the President now with enormous powers. Zondo commission has lit the anger of the people. This must be leveraged now.
The action that people expect of him now is clear. Fire the leading elements of the insurrection now and let the people deal with any reaction as they stopped further looting and criminality. Further delay will undermine him in the next conference.
