If today's ruling dispensation somehow seized power on #15August 1947, notwithstanding its cowardly absence from the freedom struggle, what country would it have created? This thread of Golwalkar's thoughts & Organiser (RSS mouthpiece) OpEds offers clues..
#यह_आज़ादी_झूठी_है
The RSS was quite clear that Hindus, Hindu traditions, Hindu culture and Hindu ideas & aspirations are the sole foundation for India.
It didn't even wait for #IndependenceDay to declare its cultural nationalism, publishing this editorial on 14th Aug 1947...
Both the RSS (again on 14/08/47) and Golwalkar (in 1966) poured contempt & scorn on the #IndianFlag adopted for the new nation. Their preference was the Bhagwa Dhwaj which apparently was a "national emblem" for "thousands of years"...
This derision extended to the Constitution too. The RSS was furious that a 20th century nation was ignoring an ancient text that the RSS had decided was the correct constitution to adopt...
Golwalkar's criticism was more scathing. He decried the alignment of India's constitutional framework & principles with modern democratic & humanist thinking. He harped on One Country, One Legislature, One Executive, echoing Nazi Germany's Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer...
Golwalkar also railed against giving social, cultural & linguistic diversity any voice in governance, preferring instead to establish a "unitary, homogeneous solid nation"...
Twenty years after our first #स्वतंत्रतादिवस, Golwalkar was still not convinced that non-Hindus were Indians and proud of it. On the contrary, he declared without an iota of proof that "menace" had "increased a hundred-fold...
Predictibly enough, Golwalkar thought that all these new-fangled 20th century notions were destroying Indian youth, both boys and girls.
Where did the ideological moorings of the RSS & Golwalkar? How did they develop this supremacist, regressive framework?...
Golwalkar felt the despicable Fascist/Nazi beliefs in "Aryan superiority" & nationhood were "a good lesson for us in Hindustan to learn & profit by". A separate thread documents how Moonje, Savarkar & Golwalkar wanted Hindus to imitate them...
Golwalkar's notions about what kind of a country India should be was grounded in bizarre fiction he concocted about Hindus having inhabited & ruled the entire world long long ago. This thread tells you more...
The Manu Smriti, that the RSS/Golwalkar revered as a "constitution", is littered with bronze age social stratification and misogyny. This thread has more details...
Indians, before independence & in the decades following, smartly & overwhelmingly rejected this appalling & atavistic ideology.
#IndiaAt75 sees them in power, but hopefully will make them irrelevant in 2024.
