Remember when @CDCgov began recommending universal masking in schools regardless of vaccination status? Turns out they also removed all references to transitioning out of precautions as Covid reaches low levels, especially masking.

Before: After:

CDC previously provided metrics when layers of mitigation could be rolled back, including that mask requirements could be removed when transmission is low or vaccination rates are high. That is now completing gone.

Before: After:

Again, CDC previously suggested rolling back mitigation strategies one by one. That part is now gone and only discusses communication. I guess we are doing them forever, then?

This change is interesting. The fully vaccinated went from less likely to have asymptomatic infection or transmit to less likely to become infected and develop symptoms? Does CDC now think fully vax'd spread Covid just as much unvax'd?

Before: After:

CDC previously recommended that school mask policies not conflict with local or state laws or regulations. Does CDC want schools to break local or state law now?

Before: After:

Here is more indication CDC thought it was appropriate masks could be removed when risk was low. They just still wanted them worn on the bus. That reference is now gone.

Before: After:

Again, CDC referenced situations when there isn't masking at all, but suggests they should be worn if a child has symptoms of a respiratory illness and is waiting to be picked up. This is now gone.

I'll end with a reminder about @NEAToday's and @AFTunion's influence over @CDCgov's school opening guidance. How many of the above changes came from teachers unions leadership instead of the CDC weighing the benefits and risks of the mitigations?
