In Ancient North India:
Caste System (4 Varnas) was very complex & strict.

In Ancient South India:
There were only 2 Varnas- Brahmins & Non Brahmins (Shudras) & Avarna (Dalits)

In British India:
Reading from South India, the Complex Caste System was 'simplified' but NOT broken.

South India (esp. Tamil Nadu) has a long history of anti-caste system!
Even though it succumbed to the Caste System, it was 'simplified' (2 Varnas) from the very beginning.
That's why Mahabharata said that the Dravidian Kings were Shudras & not Kshatriyas!

Caste System (Jaati & Varna)
was rooted in Vedic Texts (Sruti) &
executed via Codified Texts (Smriti).

Brahmins were the Admins
via Infrastructure provided by Kings.

When British saw the complex System
they tried to 'simplify' it
as Brahmin/Non Brahmin
for easy administration.

Even though there were so many Jaatis
Codified Texts (Smriti) were based on Varnas!

And that itself was too complex for the British
to administer Indian Society
on previous Administration (King/Brahmin) texts!

So, British took the
Simple model of South India: Brahmin/NonBrahmin

Fake Hindutva now falsely propagating that
British Invented the Caste System!😂 A Big NO!

Caste System (Varna & Jaati)
was the Invention of Vedic Brahmins
Propagated via Religious Sentiments
with the Patronage of Kings.

What British did was:
Just SIMPLIFY a pre-existing System

Brahmin/Non Brahmin was NOT a British 'Invention'.

It was only a British 'Simplification'
to administer an already Caste-rotten Indian Society!

British got this cue from South India
which was already operating on 2 Varnas, Not 4.

According to 4 Varnas,
King is supposed to be a Kshatriya - right? No!
*Only North Indian.
*NOT Tamil/Dravidian.
