Abe news.
A friend asked about Abe. He's doing well. He's got his job, which is being retired senior donk, and he gets paid for it just like everyone else does.
Here he's working (as defined) at a hay project. You can see them over by the fence. If anyone gets a goodie, all 3 do.
He makes a cameo appearance in this vid. Couple-three weeks ago, I dunno.
He spends a lot of time here. He's watching us hitch up to go work. He gets goodies every round.
For those who weren't here then, Abe was my first ever working donkey. He didn't know how, and I didn't know how, and I watched this video, and said I can do that.
It's harder than it looks.
These folks ain't dummies.
We could learn a lot from them.
Abe has a metabolic disease called laminitis. He can't be allowed to eat any green grass. It's a dangerous condition, and his is fairly advanced. We care for him the best we can, and he rarely has enough pain to limp. Once in a while he'll favor the right front, his worst, but
Mostly he's just old and slow. Well mannered, easy to live with. I still hug his big ol' head like this day long ago. He's my pal.
Supper one day recently.
