Another mature tree being cut down in Parkdale. Our community has among the lowest tree canopy cover in the city and where residents have little access to ecohealth benefits of green space that whiter and wealthier neighborhoods enjoy in Toronto. What a waste 😕 @Sandra_Pella
This tree sits above a rooming house that homes vulnerable residents as well as my own flat. It provides shade on 🥵 days, cleans the air of pollutants in 🚙🚗 exhaust, reduces threat of flooding, habitat for birds and other wildlife that bring us great joy and mental relief 🌿
@cityoftoronto @PublicHealthON passed resolutions in support of greenspace as a public health strategy, specifically in lower income and racialized communities, like Parkdale. And yet trees continue to come down, community is ignored when it comes to parks and other greenspace
This mature tree provided only shade for over a dozen renters, including my neighbours who are mostly low income & vulnerable people in Parkdale. Now being slaughtered despite the immense joy mental relief, ecological benefits it brought to people. Sickening @gordperks @JohnTory
This is the third tree to be destroyed at Dunn & King by my landlord and others in last few years. Not one of those trees has been replaced. deforestation of of poor and racialized communities in Toronto is social & ecological disaster. shameful @JohnTory @TOtrees @cityoftoronto
Welcome to Toronto where we kick the poor out of greenspace & destroy the little green space available to those who are lucky enough to be housed. This mature tree brought immense joy to my next-door neighbours in Parkdale who are lower income & vulnerable. Being cut down now 🤬
For 🦆s sake, if our politicians can’t protect a tree that gives immense ecological & social benefits, not to mention joy, how the hell are they going to be able to deal w more complicated issues like climate change.I have never felt more disheartened. The 🌎doesn’t deserve us 😕
Welcome to Toronto where we kick the homeless out of greenspace & destroy the little green space available to those who are lucky enough to be housed. This mature tree brought immense joy to my next-door neighbours in Parkdale who are lower income & vulnerable. Being cut down now
How I wish our politicians would put as much effort into enacting & implementing policies to protect trees & urban nature as they do "celebrating" it w empty declarations like this one. Come on @JohnTory, thousands of trees coming down across the city. We can and must do better🌲
