For #TakeoverThursday this week, we will be hearing from In2science mentor, @AulieTsee!

Aurelie is a PhD candidate who is currently wrapping up her thesis @PAM_latrobe @PetrovskiLab ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“

Follow along as Aurelie shares her journey in STEM! ๐ŸŒŸ
@LTUresearchers

Hi, Iโ€™m @AulieTsee and my journey in STEM started because of my love for food ๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿ…

In high school, I studied food science and chemistry as I was curious about how all the delicious foods we eat are digested and absorbed into the body, and the science behind it all! ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงช

The cooking practicals exams were quite stressful, I felt like I was in MasterChef (๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ), but I absolutely loved the theory behind food science so in 2013 I started a Bachelor in Human Nutrition @latrobe ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ”– @LTUnutrition

In the 2nd year of my degree, I chose a subject called Microbiology! This is the biology of very small organisms that we need a microscope to see ๐Ÿฆ ๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿงซ

I never thought that I would enjoy microbiology. I am glad I tried something new and discovered what I am passionate about ๐Ÿฅณ

I loved learning how microorganisms so I did Honours in Microbiology @PetrovskiLab where I made great friends (@brittmassey_, @Vaheesan_R & @stephh_lynch). My research was investigating how antibiotic-resistant plasmids evolve through acquiring other mobile genetic elements ๐Ÿงฌ

After Honours, I was awarded a PhD scholarship to research plasmids and how they contribute to the spread of antimicrobial resistance!

I have learned that growing as a scientist involves;
- self-confidence
- critical thinking
- growing as a person (outside of science)

As I wrap up my thesis and look back, I am grateful for the opportunities and I have definitely enjoyed the journey ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“

I am excited for a new chapter working on AMR and solving new problems with other scientists. ๐Ÿงซ๐Ÿงฌ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ”ฌ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ

Here is my takeaway to all people in STEM:
