NEW: The complaint against Cody Mattice and James Mault has now been unsealed. The role of open-source research is pretty clear here. (Thread) huffpost.com/entry/cody-mat…

“Cody from Rochester" was a pretty good lead.

Tips about James Mault came in pretty early.

The FBI interviewed Mault's mom, who said she drove him down to D.C.

Mault was interviewed by the FBI on Jan. 18.

"Mault claimed to not know who the unknown male."

Mmmhmm. Phone records showed otherwise.

Here's where Cody's wife's Facebook comes into play:

Here's where it's clear the feds checked the hashtags. #FenceSnatcher #SeditionHunters

They check the body cams, and they combine that with the open-source info complied by sleuths:

And there you have it, case wrapped up in a bow.

HuffPost’s story here: huffpost.com/entry/cody-mat…

James Mault was arrested in North Carolina last week.

No record of Mault in any of the federal districts in North Carolina, so it’s unclear if the government is seeking his detention or if he’s currently in detention.

But here’s something that seems to confirm the work of a sleuth: he was arrested at Fort Bragg.

Correcting above: Mault’s mom told the FBI that her husband (not her) drove her adult son and his buddies to D.C. in a bus.
