One week to @COP26, so my inbox is full of requests for data, charts, fact checks on CO₂ emissions.
Great that so many journalists are using data to tell these stories.
A thread of @OurWorldInData resources you might find useful. All open-access & free as a public good.
🧵👇
Easiest way to explore the many CO₂ metrics is in our data explorer.
Includes: Cumulative, annual, per capita, trade-adjusted, share of world totals, by fuel, carbon intensity. For every country. Back to 1751.

For those that want the raw data to build upon, we provide our complete @OurWorldInData dataset on Greenhouse Gas Emissions on GitHub.
Download in multiple formats. Clear descriptions of the underlying sources. Scripts are published there too.

On our page on CO₂ emissions we provide multiple views of emissions.
For example, cumulative emissions as a treemap:

3/
Annual CO₂ emissions as a treemap
ourworldindata.org/co2-emissions#…
4/
Perspectives on how much CO₂ is embedded in traded goods (consumption-based emissions).

5/
We recently published our climate change impacts data explorer where you can explore metrics such as temperature anomalies, sea level rise, ocean heat content, and others.

6/
We have dedicated country profile pages for every country.
Just pick the one you want from the dropdown.

Decarbonizing energy is crucial to reduce emissions.
We have a data explorer on energy where you can explore energy consumption, electricity by source, energy by source, and how this mix is changing:
ourworldindata.org/explorers/ener…
8/
Again, if you want to build upon this energy data we have it all as a complete dataset to download from GitHub.

Country profiles on energy for every country.
Just select the one you want from the dropdown and find the important metrics on a single page.

An overview of the combined challenge of development and reducing CO2 emissions is given by @MaxCRoser in his article on the World's Energy Problem: ourworldindata.org/worlds-energy-…

All of our work on @OurWorldInData is provided as a public good.
Please use it for anything you find useful.

Unfortunately not all of the data we need is publicly available. Some is locked behind paywalls (despite being mostly publicly financed).
This is really unacceptable in the lead up to #COP26. We should take this opportunity to change it 👇
