Today’s #COVID19 report in Minnesota was always going to be bad — last Tuesday was artificially mild due to data delays; yesterday’s deaths were all reported today.
But still, this is rough. Minnesota’s average positivity rate has crossed back over 10%.
Today’s report is actually the single worst #COVID19 report we’ve ever had, with more than 10,000 new cases. BUT this report includes 3 days of data; the 9,000-case days last November were single days.
Still, our average is up sharply, and relatively closely tracking last fall.
#COVID19 hospitalizations are also rising quickly.
A huge spike of 51 newly reported deaths intoday’s data, but that’s artificial — yesterday had 0 deaths due to holiday staffing issues at the health department. So this is 51 cases over 2 days — you can see the trendline here dip and recover.
#COVID19 cases are up all across Minnesota, but the hardest hit area is east-central Minnesota — which is also the area with the state’s lowest vaccination rate.
Adults 30-49 are the age group with the most new cases right now.
We did see an uptick in vaccination rates among 5- to 11-year-olds in today’s report; this measure had been lagging the pace of 12- to 15-year-olds after they first became eligible.
Anyway, always remember: never overreact to one day of data.
