After a year of intense collaboration with the @expo2020dubai teams, the most ambitious and challenging project we have been lucky to ever collaborate on is now public: an interactive content platform paired with a #webgl 3D replica of the actual expo site in Dubaï.

Just the sheer size of it defies what we have been up to until today. 70 custom pavilions, 85 thematic pavilions, 2 parks, 4 main thematic pavilions, 1 exhibition center. All of them re-modeled, textured, lit, and integrated into a sturdy #webgl-based universe.

The @expo2020dubai dimensions being so large we had to divide exploration into 5 distinct districts. Each of them harbored dozens of those high-definition pavilions.

Still on the pavilion subject, each 3D building is tied to one or several content pages, each being fully dynamic and left at the disposal of the participating countries to populate with their very own content including 360° visits, galleries, related events, etc…

To properly honor the efforts and beautiful genius of the participants, each map is available in High Definition (see in the menu) if your setup allows it. As long as you're there, why don't you also enable the custom soundscapes?

The entire virtual expo experience has been built around both a day and a night mode, to allow the world to experience how beautiful those buildings are in both settings.

The map is just the top part of the iceberg as our team built an entire user experience around the pavilions, but also what is happening during the full program. All the events, podcasts, speakers, expo legacy, and so on are also accessible via the platform.

About 60 events will happen each day until the closing ceremony, and pretty much all of them will be watchable on the site. Thanks to their profile, users can save events and podcasts to watch later and be notified when content they are interested in is going live.

Let's be honest, we could only dream of one day having even the smallest role in bringing to life such a large culture-defining event with the opening event being watched on the platform by more than 2M viewers
