The city’s shelters offer skills dev programmes such as completing matric,typing,business admin,furniture manufacturing, security guard& beautician courses. It is hoped that the skills will make displaced people more employable or in a position to be self-employed #JoburgCares^NB

Residents of the City of Johannesburg can contribute to the success of the shelters by donating food, clothing and hygiene stuff such as wash clothes, bath soap, roll-on and body lotion.  Items can be dropped off directly at any of the shelters #joburgcares ^NB

Substance abuse rehab/treatment centres are spread across the City’s administrative Regions and offer

#DidYouKnow The Expanded Social Package (ESP) gives qualifying citizens in the City access to Free Basic Services (FBS), on their municipal services such as Rates, Refuse, Sewer, Water and Electricity #JoburgCares #JoburgWorks ^NB

Free basic services is defined as the minimum rebate amount provided to individuals sufficient to cover or cater for the basic needs of the household. Only indigent citizens qualify for FBS and the programme is solely intended to assist them #JoburgCares #JoburgWorks ^NB

Citizens are required to register with the City to qualify for free basic services. The City will vet every application, selecting only those citizens that meet the criteria, based on this only successful applicant will be granted indigent status #JoburgCares #JoburgWorks ^NB

Special COVID-19 Arrangements
In order to limit infections and as part of the continued fight against the Coronavirus. Only new applications will be processed at Customer Service Centres. ESP registrations expiring during this period will continue to be extended #JoburgCares ^NB
