I have been loving this movie @EncantoMovie so I’m going to try a thread here on how the people in the movie could represent groups during this pandemic. Feel free to add your own thoughts!

Mirabel: Medical students. Constantly trying to think outside the box and find innovative solutions to any and every problem that comes up in this pandemic.

Luisa: ER docs, ICU docs, nurses, really all HCW carrying the weight of this pandemic in so many ways. Keeping a brave face while taking care of sick patients, quarantining from family to prevent bringing the virus home, and never feeling like it’s enough. No cracks no breaks.

Bruno: epidemiologists and public health experts, villainized for predicting what was going to happen. Bruno merely sees the future, he’s not the one causing the problems, he’s just telling people what’s coming.

Abuela: Administrators, not seeing the big picture, focusing on details that don’t help the system, creating problems by forcing people to stretch their magical powers to the limit.

Julieta: Heals with the power of her cooking. Keeps doing what she does best, healing everyone with her amazing arepa con queso. Like our ID docs who keep pivoting to treat each patient and provide expertise based on latest guidelines and treatments available.

Pepa: her mood can change the weather. I think most appropriately this applies to those government officials who instead of letting science guide their decision making and policies let their emotions drive their decisions.

The miracle: this is what gave the family a safe home and their powers during the movie. This one is easy. The #COVID19Vaccine. No question.

And casita: the magic home that breaks apart when everything is stretched so thin and the family loses site of what’s important. Like our healthcare system. We need to refocus our priorities and rebuild our foundation. There is hope. But we need to put in the work. Together.

The townspeople= communities. They rely on the magic and don’t think they can help initially. But when the magic disappears, they come together to help the family. This is what our communities can do. Our system is cracking and our HCW are breaking. Help by doing your part.

And who could forget Dolores who hears everything. Our amazing PCPs who hear from everyone all the time, patients, colleagues, family, EVERYONE. They are always trying to make sure all the messages they hear are synthesized and an appropriate plan is communicated effectively.
