Thread: Why Africans/blacks & the world should care for #Tigray, an African & world civilization & stand against #Tigraygenocide. Tigray is a unique civilization (one of the four great powers of the ancient world) that has always been humane & welcoming to all people.1/n

Early on, it accepted judaism and because of that connection, Aksum is still considered the place where the Ark of the convent is housed. 2/n theguardian.com/world/2021/jan…

Tigrayans (also called Aksum, ancient capital of Tigray) invented the Ge'ez letters which are now used for the writing of many African languages including Amharic, Tigrinya, Guragigna, Tigre, etc. They fused Brana and their writing system and spreed literature. 3/n

The Tigrayans introduced their own systems of governance, law and order, calendar, minted coins and expanded trade and agriculture. They became the main players on both sides of the Red Sea. 4/n

In the fifth century, Tigray (already Christian) welcomed Christians fleeing persecution in the Roman Empire due to the split of the church in 451. Many came and found home in Tigray. Notable among them are the Nine Saints who spreed Christianity even more in Tigray. 5/n

As a result of this, literature and Christianity expanded. Great music composers such as Saint Yared whose music and hymn is still the music of the Orthodox churches of Ethiopia and Eritrea and of the Ethiopian catholic Church thrived in this culture. 6/n

Creativity in the writing of religious books was introduced. For example, Tigrayans started illustrating books. The first illustrated bible books, the Garima Gospels, are found in Tigray. visual-arts-cork.com/history-of-art… 7/n

The Tigrayans invented their own architecture and used it to build magnificent palaces, houses and churches. whc.unesco.org/en/tentativeli…
The influence of their architecture is to be found even outside Tigray, in places such as the churches of Lalilbela. 8/n

Tigrayans preserved Christian books that have been lost in the rest of the world, for instance, the Book of Enoch. Tigrayans created a unique African Christianity, civilization and culture that welcomed all people from Mediterranean, middle east and Africa. 9/n

The Tigrayan civilization contributed to the world and so visible and Tigray was a global player as can be seen from the beatification of the Tigrayan emperor Saint Elesbaan by the Eastern Orthodox churches. reginamag.com/st-elesbaan-ki… 10/n

In the sixth century, Tigray (then called Abyssinia) received muslims fleeing persecution and gave them a place to settle. This event is known as First Hijira. The place that Tigray gave them is called Negash and it houses the first mosque in Africa. 11/n

Tigray has always been a humane civilization, welcoming all people (irrespective of race or religion) when they flee persecution. Tigray is a place of significant African & world heritage. 12/n

The kind & welcoming people of Tigray & their heritage is now under genocide. The genocide aims to wipe out the people & erase their heritage & civilization. It is done with the help of Iranian, Turkish, UAE and Chinese drones. Africa & the world should stand with Tigray. 13/n
