Major shout out to the @united #flightattendant who saved my mom’s life. My mom’s blood sugar bottomed out on her flight to Chicago. All mom could do was stumble up to the FA while deplaning and barely get out the word “help.” I want to say a huge thank you & share the story.

The backstory: Mom flew from DC to Chicago yesterday. She was stressed and exhausted after having her flight cancelled the day before. The plane was small and only had one flight attendant. Mom is a type 1 diabetic could tell something was wrong. She tried glucose pills. No luck.

All my mom could do was sit there and hope they landed soon because she was unable to explain what was going on - she could barely talk. When people started to deplane, she managed to get up to the flight attendant and got out the word “help.” That’s it, just “help.”

The flight attendant sprang into action. She immediately sat my mom down and kept an eye on her while the last few people got off the plane. She guided my mom off the plane and to a safe place. By some miracle, the flight attendant quickly realized that was going on.

The FA recognized my moms insulin pump. It turns out that this flight attendant has a 2 year old granddaughter with type 1 diabetes, so she’s done her research. While keeping my mom safe, she got her exactly what she needed to stabilize her blood sugar. She was patient and kind.

She stayed with my mom and continued to get her juice and the right foods. Once my mom seemed better, she personally walked my mom to baggage claim, helped my mom get her stuff, and made sure my mom safely got the person picking her up.

The flight attendant stayed by my mom’s side and kept her safe. She stayed calm and treated my mom with immense compassion and dignity in what could have turned out to be an incredibly dangerous situation. I’ve seen it go the other way several times.

I wish I knew the flight attendant’s name so I can personally thank her. Instead I will have to be content saying it here. Thank you from my whole heart to both this wonderful woman and @united. The flight was from DCA to ORD on 1/4, plz pass on my thanks #unitedairlines.

Apparently this flight was operated by @GoJet_Airlines, so the hero flight attendant might work for them and not United. Whoever you are, my mom hasn’t stopped talking about how wonderful you are. Having someone help her like that really helped her spirit, too.
