In 2010 the United States had the most partners, even though it was relatively well matched by China.
It is striking how different 2000 looks compared to 2020. China is on the level of Japan and Australia, and the Europe bloc looks more multipolar.
In 1990 France and Germany were equally matched. Here we can also see a small British bloc - it will grow as we rewind.
1980: The European bloc is dominated by three equals: the UK, Germany and France.
1970: UK is a global player on a level not seen today.
1960: Where the data starts and the thread ends. UK only second to the US.
