Video thread: As Ottawa declared a state of emergency Sunday, @Paulisconi filmed scenes of the occupation taking place at the Canadian capital.

The protesters, led by truckers, are demanding PM Trudeau lift COVID vaccine and testing requirements for border crossings.

One speaker at #TruckersConvoy2022 claimed "We are about freedom of choice" and identified himself as being double-vaccinated but said he objects to having to "show my papers to buy a sandwich."

"We will 'honk' the fascism away!"

Some at the #Ottawa occupation are not only anti-mandate, but anti-vax.

One speaker claimed that the necessity of booster shows shows that vaccines themselves are ineffective, comparing it to "gambling."

He accuses Premier of Ontario Doug Ford of profiting from the pandemic.

"I hope that we actually get our corrupt, Nazi, corrupt government to get rid of these mandates," said one participant.

"I'm a liberal. I'm not a conservative," he explained. "It's gone too far."

He is skeptical the trucker protest will actually succeed.

One participant who has been at #Ottawa demo for a week describes that "police have been very friendly, especially the Parliamentary [Protective] Service."

He says though that they've been recently confiscating resources like fuel to "choke us out."

One food delivery man who uses his bike said he "loves the protest" but he thinks the honking disrupts the community's sleep, particularly "kids and the elderly."

Another participant dismissed comparisons between the #OttawaConvoy and January 6: "This one comes with bouncy castles. It's been quite a fun event."

As the sun set on Ottawa Sunday night, protesters held a dance party on the street.

In the evening, police set up barricades disrupting the action.

"The dancing, the fireworks, and the open alcohol in crowds, I think we can all agree that that is not a protest," explained a cop. "The police have a job to do. We can't stand by idly with our eyes closed."
