5/ The famous Framingham Heart Study also showed a reduction in heart failure with moderate drinking of wine up to ~1.5 drinks/day.

6/ 38,000 male health care professionals free of heart dz were studied over 12 yrs & 1,418 heart attacks. The type of beverage didn’t matter – beer, white, red, or liquor. A 12.5g ⬆️ in daily alcohol consumption reduced heart attacks by 22% over 4 yrs.

7/ In an Extension of the Physicians Health Study of 89,000 men (N=14,125 with a  Hx of HTN), it was shown that as compared to NON-drinkers, monthly, weekly & daily alcohol use cut risk of cardiovascular death by up to 50%.

8/ A study of the psychological effects of drinking showed that beer drinkers had lower IQs, more neuroticism and psychoticism, higher levels of lying, and more overt abuse.

9/ The same study showed that WINE drinkers had higher parental education, socioeconomic status, less alcohol abuse, and optimal functioning on personality tests, psychiatric symptoms, and health-related behavior.

10/ The #nurse health study of N=12,480 nurses showed that 1 drink per day of beer or wine had 25% ⬇️ cognitive decline (note risk is lower - on LEFT👇) and there was no increase even up to 2 drinks per day. This is very encouraging for brain health!

11/ Light to moderate 🍺 🍷
(1.5 drinks/day) reduced risk of a Stroke by 25%. But increased drinking up to 3 to 4 drinks per day made risk go UP by 75%.
 
J-WAVE: it’s another example of the J wave of concern. Moderation is good. Excess is bad.

12/ Should diabetics drink alcohol in moderation?

A 2-year study of 224 stable Diabetics randomized to 150 ml of water, white wine, or red wine. All on Mediterranean diet.

Wine was superior to water in reducing lipids & controlling sugars in diabetics.

13/ CONCLUSIONS:
Wine or combinations of alcohol in these studies were STRONGLY associated w reduced morbidity & mortality from all-causes, heart, cancer, and stroke risk.
 
The J-shaped curve has been consistently proven.
