1/ Reopening: #COVID19BC

Loosening of restrictions are expected to be announced today.

Sure to be some backlash from those who are not ready.

Let's look at the UK, where they removed many restrictions on January 15th. (~ 1 month ago)

Declines across the board.

2/ UK Patients admitted to hospital.

Daily numbers of patients admitted to hospital (Don't think this distinguishes from the "for" or "with")

7 day average was ~2000/day 1 month ago, decreased to ~1300/day (Feb 8th)

Lowest since Pre-Christmas.

3/ UK Hospital Census

Daily count of confirmed COVID-19 patients in hospital.

Was ~19,500 1 month ago, latest numbers ~12,000.

4/ UK - Critical Care

Daily count of COVID-19 patients in Mechanical Ventilation beds.

~700 1 month ago, now below 400.

lowest in 7 months, (early July, 2021)

5) UK - Deaths

This data doesn't distinguish between whether the patient passed away from COVID or from another cause.

Regardless though, the trend is declining as all other metrics.

~60% decrease in the last month

Summary:

Despite removing restrictions, the impact on healthcare system has continued to lighten.

Transmission cannot be eliminated.

We are transitioning to a period where we need to decide for ourselves & families what our risk tolerance is.

Will require patience.
