Chomsky providing some crucially important context missing in Ukraine-Russia coverage in Western media: "Russia is surrounded by US offensive weapons...no Russian leader, no matter who it is, could tolerate Ukraine joining a hostile military alliance."
Chomsky goes on to say that the US is blocking a peaceful, regional solution to the Ukraine crisis, which again it is responsible for, because it wants to maintain its status as the global hegemon
Chomsky's position, which he reiterated against just two days ago in an interview (see ), is the same as renowned international relations scholar John Mearsheimer's, detailed in this thread:
as noted in that thread, John Mearsheimer, who again is a leading expert in international relations, has a talk wherein he goes into great detail on the background to the current Ukraine crisis. I highly recommend watching the entire talk in full:
now you can disagree with Chomsky, Mearsheimer, Stephen Cohen, and many others who share their view, but to dismiss them as "tankies" who are ignorant of the matter and instead appealing to some breadtube streamer hack skimming over wiki pages is just deranged behavior
