We did a beach clean today with the students of @colmansmidleton and @christkingss. The students were amazing.

In total 1012kg was collected. In other words over a tonne.

We want to show you here some of the more unusual finds.

We found some #retrorubbish. Lots of it actually. Like this @7UPIRELAND can which dates pre 1989. It has the old type ring pull on it.

Well, one @7UPIRELAND can and 2 @fanta cans. All pre-1989 when the ring pull changed from the pull tab to the push tab. #RetroRubbish

@TodayFM @fiona96fmnews @CleanCoasts @morningireland @EoinBearla @PaschalSheehy And @MrTaytoIreland packets were found. Long time ago since Tayto were 17p. Even looooonger ago when they were 6p!!!!!!!!!! #RetroRubbish

And a Stag can.. also from the 80's. Not sure what was in the Glass bottle. Is Stag still available?

@Bill_Linnane Then there was this pile of artificial grass gathered and rolled up by students of both schools. Artificial grass is so bad for #biodiversity, but that's another day's work. #BlackrockCastle

@Bill_Linnane @KOSullivanIT Maybe this pic by @CathalIRL today will give a good idea the level of rubbish in #CorkHarbour.

It's fixable. If we want.

We removed 1012kg today. Sadly there was much more that we left behind.

Huge thanks to @corkcitycouncil engineer Simon Lyons who showed our students the pump station located there and our students learned in the field about Fats, Oils and Greases and the problem of flushing materials in the toilet that aren't pee, poo or toilet paper. 😷 #fatbergs
