The Father (2021)
It's Friday night and I need to unwind
will probably give commentary about this movie
^^ FOR THE RECORD I have a Grandmother who is "in decline" but as awareness of it and it's depressing, so I've got that going for me
(I've seen both these lovely actors/actresses in previous roles)
Obviously I already have the expectation Anthony Hopkins is going nutty, I just want to see how good this movie pulls it off
The best I have to offer in the meantime -- how could anyone find such a wholesome fella like Hopkins intimidating? The movie kinda sets him off like it, here.
What @MauLer93 said about the layout of the house in "The Father" only actually makes sense from watching it, compared to what he described in his video.
I didn't get what he meant from his Youtube thing alone, but the movie sets it up.
But anyway. Having lived with "old persons" this movie nails the vibe right off the bat.
He's so good at looking the right amount of "LOST"
Even though I was previewed the META of "The Father" within the first ten minutes of watching the actual film it's a convincing enough portrayal.
my attention is obsessed on seeing shit move around in this apartment
Who are you?
Ok at this point (15 minutes in) they are very clearly setting up a distinction.
On ONE line: it's the decline in Anthony Hopkins memory
BUT ON THE OTHER: they're throwing in "WHAT DO YOU AS THE AUDIENCE REMEMBER, HUH?!? LOL"
TEN YEARS THOUGH?
wow
Ok by the second scene I'm left wondering if the first even happened.
Anthony Hopkins becomes the only constant in this world of changing variables
the only pillar of this movie is when the scenes are allowed to breathe and give some kind of exposition no matter how nonsensical it might end up being
Whoa there Joe Biden, stop yelling
"It's not your flat!"
ok
"IM NOT THE SAME ACTRESS LOL"
oh god
I'm a carefully diligent person.
But it only took me 20 minutes into "The Father" for me to lose my grasp on reality.
"who the fuck am I? And why am I a cartoon crab on Twitter all of a sudden?" i ask myself
The fact that it's not Olivia Colman anymore actually comes off as unsettling
"I GOT DIVORCED MORE THAN FIVE YEARS AGO"
no. STOP
THE HUSBAND JUST TOLD ME THE MARRIAGE WAS FINE. I WAS THERE. I SAW HIM SAY THAT.
(Im now left with the impression that Anthony Hopkins is right all along, and there's people messing with him)
STOP FUCKING WITH ME
ok they give a glimpse of the outside world. HAS IT CHANGED?
lol no it hasn't. fuckkkkkkk
They are cruel and clever about how they change shit around.
"this is my flat. isn't it?"
bruh i don't know anymore
SCENE CHANGE
SCENE CHANGE
VERY MUCH NOT THE SAME FLAT
I AS THE VIEWER STILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO DISTINGUISH THAT.
CAN'T PULL ANOTHER FAST ONE ON ME
NO. WE ARE VERY CLEARLY, SOMEWHERE ELSE NOW.
By the power of screenshots I know this similar looking kitchen is not the same.
But i'm grasping onto these facts, they are all I have.
see!!!
!??! they brought Olivia Colman back though? oh god how the fuck am I supposed to keep track
this is a different setting. that's all I know now. I don't trust any of this other shit in the movie.
... wait. DOES THIS SHIT CONNECT BACK TO THE FIRST SCENE?
"He was in a flat not far from here."
Im going to trust you Olivia Colman. For now.
"that's why I moved him in here, with me."
OK OK this is solid, I can understand this change of scene. please don't make me confused again.
please.
No we haven't seen her before yet, Anthony Hopkins. It's ok I got the power of rewinding the film to double check for you.
Anthony Hopkins one consistent trait is calling his own daughter stupid amidst his own forgetfulness
This actually reminds me of how my Grandma began to mix up Christmas presents
The same love is there, of course
but all the meanwhile, you know
"I WAS A DANCER"
"Dad no you were an engineer"
He thinks it's his same flat.
Sorry Anthony Hopkins. No. I picked up on it.
I now have the compulsion to write down my memoirs for the sake of one day growing old and forgetting my experiences.
ok never mind it got dark
Also for some reason I feel like if all of America started holding up pictures of Joe Biden's dead son, Beau, it'd trigger a public episode.
But anyway back to this old man in particular
... I've lost track of shit again oh no
Same timeline, but a new man in her life. 90% sure.
"when i came back with the chicken now, he didn't recognize me."
DON'T YOU DARE PULL THIS SHIT ON ME, MOVIE
I REMEMBER THE CHICKEN
THAT WAS A DIFFERENT ACTRESS
I swear to God I need a flow chart for this film
I feel like you can keep track of Anthony Hopkins dementia in The Father if you're aggressive about that shit
Now the movie is in the "that shit you THOUGHT you knew? we're gonna attack that!" stage
Are we talking about the same chicken?
im afraid, movie
is this the same apartment or are we somewhere else
oh geez
Genre: Survival Horror
the movie hasn't changed directions for a while but for some reason I still have my doubts and that frightens me
OTHER DAUGHTER SPOTTED!!
I assume.
Is this movie how I remember @MauLer93 portraying it as?
no. But the underlying confusion of "The Father" is enough to make me say, even in my memory of MauLer's depiction? he wasn't wrong.
Boomer Simulator (2022)
POV: everyone talking shit about you at the party, then they see you walk in
The tensions n'shit between the OTHER characters is what elevates this movie
It's actually a consistent movie
and that's the fascinating part, that it **COMES BACK AROUND** to that
wait we just had dinner
This movie is motivating me to write a last will and testament
Now Olivia Colman is wearing yellow and im worried that means we capitulated into the year 3000
please be the same house
WE'RE OUTSIDE IN THE SAME SPOT AGAIN
WHAT DOES IT MEAN
nO no. LUCY'S PAINTING WAS THERE
My apologies to Imogen Poots who seems lovely
oh lord now it's the circus
YOU AGAIN
"GETTING ON EVERYBODY'S "TITS""?
no no no no no
WHY ARE WE BACK HERE.
how many times. have we had chicken?
oh. oh no
who put that closet there?
"you told her you were really good at tap dancing yesterday"
WHAT
NO
"yeah"
THATS NOT LAURA NO
RUN DUDE
He has to be in the old folks home now
oh god no
dont do me dirty like that. movie
oh fuck
the movie left me disabled, in an old folk's home
hi again, you gonna shit yourself?
