Ahead of today's Senate floor debate on the Don't Say Gay bill, students and faith leaders from across Florida are rallying on the Capitol steps with LGBTQ lawmakers.

Today is the day for cooler legislative heads to prevail. Today is the day to put a stop to Don't Say Gay.

Students and faith leaders have now made their way inside the Capitol, just outside the room where Florida's State Senate has convened.

Rep. @CarlosGSmith with a message for LGBTQ youth: "We will get up, stand up, wake up every single day to fight for you because your lives matter." ❤️

As students stage a sit-in inside the Capitol building, the group goes quiet while youth organizer Madelyn reads the names of LGBTQ people who have died by suicide after experiencing anti-LGBTQ hate.

A powerful display of solidarity from students, faith leaders, and lawmakers.

The message is clear: #LetFreeFloridaSayGay

🎵 amazing grace, how sweet the sound 🎵

While those in Tallahassee continue to rally inside the Capitol, Winter Park HS students in Orlando have walked out in protest to the Don’t Say Gay bill.

#LetFreeFloridaSayGay

The Florida Senate is now in a recess until 3:45pET after a long, intentional filibuster to attempt to outlast students and faith leaders.

The bill will likely come up after the break.

Nevertheless, students persist. Nearly 7 hours into the day, they are still here with a message:

"We say gay."
