BREAKING: The FL Board of Education has adopted a sweeping set of rules that target the LGBTQ community and advance the Governor's war on academic freedom. The rules introduce punishment for transgender students and staff who access restrooms that align with their gender identity, expand anti-LGBTQ censorship efforts to extracurricular activities, impose new barriers to students having their names and pronouns respected in school...

BREAKING: Today, we took the extraordinary step of issuing a travel advisory, warning of the risks posed to the health, safety, and freedom of those considering short or long term travel, or relocation to the state. As an organization that has spent decades working to improve FL’s reputation as a welcoming, inclusive place to live work & visit, it's with great sadness that we must respond to those asking if it's safe to travel to or remain in FL as laws strip away basic rights & freedoms.

Tonight, the Sarasota community showed up to support openly-LGBTQ School Board member Tom Edwards after he was subjected to bigoted hate at the last meeting — hate that Board Chair and DeSantis acolyte Bridget Ziegler refused to put a stop to. EQFL speaks out in support of Tom When Tom was again subjected to anti-LGBTQ hate that Chair Ziegler did nothing to address, he left the meeting — to cheers of support from the community.

Ziegler has allowed hate to hijack the conversation long enough. Tom deserves better. The entire community does.

Today, the FL Board of Education voted unanimously on new rules designed to intimidate school districts and teachers that affirm LGBTQ students — including expanding the enforcement of the Don’t Say LGBTQ law. The Board of Education’s move to target individual teachers' jobs and licenses is another cruel attack from an administration that has spent months punching down at FL’s LGBTQ youth and families.

We will not permit any school to enforce this in a way that endangers the safety of children. We stand ready to fight for Floridians in court & hold lawmakers...

One day after @GovRonDeSantis’ office said that quiet part out loud, that they believe the existence of LGBTQ people to be a threat to children, the Florida Senate rejected reasonable amendments to this legislation and refused to mitigate its harm. (1/4) Even as thousands of students walked out of class in protest & hundreds lined the halls of the Capitol to demand lawmakers address the damage being done by this bill, the Senate doubled down on the Governor’s political agenda and the anti-LGBTQ extremism at the heart of it. DeSantis is taking a page from Anita Bryant’s playbook, using anti-LGBTQ legislation as a springboard to serve his national political ambitions. From banning books and electronic monitoring of teachers to white-washing history and allowing the state to dictate our health care... ...decisions, DeSantis is committed to an agenda of censorship and surveillance that intrudes on all aspects of our lives.
