Joshua Hawley is not sure whether women who have hysterectomies are still women.
I’ve seen many pundits eye-roll at his comments—but we need to pay more attention to why he defined a woman specifically as “a mother.”
🧵
A full decade ago, Joshua wrote down his vision for this country.
You can read it all here:
patheos.com/blogs/philosop…
He believes that American "[g]overnment serves Christ’s kingdom rule; this is its purpose. And Christians’ purpose in politics should be to advance the kingdom of God—to make it more real, more tangible, more present. Or should I say, to immanentize the eschaton."
He believes his job as a politician is to make God’s kingdom “more real, more tangible [and] more present.”
So we must pay attention to what Joshua thinks that kingdom looks like—because that’s what he’s spent decades forcing into reality.
I have always found his statements on women alarming.
He calls for a woman’s role to be defined based on her identity as a mother.
And yup, y’all, that’s the same shit he spouted out yesterday.
Moreover, he asks for laws on forced pregnancy to go further.
And just this week, he woman he endorsed for the Missouri US Senate race indicated she wanted to investigate + imprison women who need abortions.
You must understand that Joshua views equality for women as deeply entangled with the identity of motherhood.
That is our purpose.
And if we reject forced pregnancy—
Or if we have had a hysterectomy—
Well then, we’ve disrupted Joshua’s efforts to make his version of God’s kingdom a reality.
And make no mistake, this Christofascist reality is exactly what Joshua wants.
He’s telling you who he is.
Listen.
#flashbackfriday to those times when Joshua Hawley, aka the couch warrior, couldn’t handle real questions so instead he just offered a look of horror and then hid from the camera.
