The #Sahel region has some of the worst health indicators in the world.
On average, people in the region - live 20 years shorter than in Switzerland.
Maternal mortality is 100 times higher.

The #Sahel region's humanitarian situation worsened in 2021:
💔 Cholera outbreaks in 🇳🇬🇳🇪🇨🇲🇧🇫🇲🇱
💔 Yellow fever in 🇹🇩🇳🇬🇳🇪🇨🇲
💔 Over 1.5m internally displaced people in 🇧🇫
💔 27% of health services disrupted in 🇲🇱
💔 +30m people with high risk of food insecurity
Only half of the funding needed for life-saving assistance in Sahel region was received in 2021.
To respond to the region's acute health needs & strengthen its presence in the region, WHO released US$8.3m from its Contingency Funding for Emergencies bit.ly/31vWqUc
In coming six months, WHO will:
- provide tents & medical supplies in 🇧🇫
- train health workers, improve diagnostics & treatment for cholera in 🇨🇲
- provide Emergency Health Kits to provide care for 100,000 patients in 🇹🇩
In coming six months, WHO will:
- send psychologists across 🇲🇱
- help train four rapid response teams to help fight outbreaks in 🇳🇪
- reestablish health services for 300,000+ people in Borno state in 🇳🇬
